Terrible Cyclone In Macon County
M. Alleck Coldsby Killed and His Mother Badly Hurt.
The following brief telegram received here yesterday morning, indicates that a most fearful and destructive cyclone visited a portion of Macon county on last Sunday night, but we were unable to get further details from it than is contained in the following:
Tuskegee, Ala., Jan. 12, 1885.
To Mrs. John Sheally, Eufaula.
A cyclone killed your brother Alleck last night, and your mother was seriously hurt. Come immediately, and answer quickly, as we are awaiting your reply. S.K. Willis.
We are told by those in the city who were up about three o’clock yesterday morning, that a very angry looking cloud, heavily charged with electricity, was seen to the west of the city about that hour, but it was their impression that it passed fifteen or twenty miles south of us; but as nothing was heard of a storm or cyclone in that direction on yesterday, the inference is, that observers here were mistaken as to the direction in which the storm was moving, or they may have seen only one portion of it while the other passed through Macon county. We hope to have full particulars of the cyclone for to-morrow’s issue.
