March 27, 1886 Clarke County Tornado 

From Clarke County Democrat, Grove Hill, Alabama, April 1, 1886, pg. 4:

A heavy storm of wind and rain visited this county, last Saturday morning. A good deal of timber and fencing and some houses were blown down. Some cattle were killed by falling timber. It hailed some in certain localities.

             It rained heavily Monday night and Tuesday, and it extended to the upper waters of our rivers, extensive overflows may be expected within the next week or two.

             These protracted, heavy rains, together with the fallen timber of Saturday’s wind, will delay regular farm work considerably.
